Most people are not aware that when they are experiencing pain in their lower extremities or their back, the pain was actually a sciatica pain. This pain is usually long-lasting and therefore it will torture the person. Experiencing sciatica pain also does not mean that the body organ that suffers from the pain is the lower back where it starts from. The pain can be felt from the toes to the lower back, due to the rapidly branching sciatic nerves. What is even more terrifying is that this kind of pain is hardly detected even by doctors using modern equipments such as X-rays, CT scans or MRI scans.
There are also various treatments to help dissipate sciatica pain, ranging from surgery to home remedies and therapy. Usually people will not choose the first one because of the cost, so the latter one is more popular to treat the pain.
Another instance when someone experiences sciatica pain is when the sciatic nerve is inflamed in this area of the body. If this occurs, the pain can be treated by using anti-inflammatory drugs, like ibuprofen, and epidural steroid injections. There are many other forms of treatment that can be applied to ease the pain and to gain the best treatment for the inflamed nerve, you should consult a doctor.
You can also see a physical therapist and a chiropractor to alleviate your sciatica pain. However, when sciatica pain is first experienced, most doctors will suggest you to take a rest for a day or two. Only after the rest can you begin exercises and therapy to cure your sciatica pain. Without resting first, there is a high possibility that your pain will exacerbate and the sciatic nerve will be damaged even further. Consulting your chiropractor or therapist is therefore necessary as they will give you a list of exercises and stretches that you can administer to reduce the pain.
Exercises and therapy will not only alleviate your sciatica pain, but they also act as preventive measures which will avert you from experiencing recurring pain in the future.
